The Tau Manta is a superheavy transport craft used by the Tau Empire. It is able to carry an entire Hunter Cadre into battle, deploying them in relative safety by using its armaments to sweep the landing zone before touching down. It’s well-armed and armoured, able to go into the frontlines of battles to support ground forces. It is considered the smallest interstellar starship in the Tau’s fleet.
The Orca Dropship is a large dedicated troop transport for the Tau Empire. Used primarily for moving troops and cargo from orbiting ships down to a planet’s surface, it serves as a workhorse and only has small defensive weapons should it need to defend itself. The Orca is also equipped to carry an Ethereal or Tau Commander which with the use of the crafts tactical command center allows them to oversee operations safely from within the transport.
A relatively recent addition to the arsenal of the Tau Empire, the Tau Barracuda AX-5-2 is a multi-role fighter. Created in response to the increasingly diverse threats encountered by the race as it has expanded into the galaxy, this new pattern maintained the unmatched agility and manoeuvrability of its forebears, but benefited from more sophisticated combat avionics and an enhanced power grid. Of notable change also was a variable weapons fit which substantially increased the scope of target types the Barracuda could be outfitted to engage. These weapons ranged from the conventional ion...
The Sokar pattern Stormbird is a dedicated attack lander. It has served as a high-durability orbital assault craft, a mobile bastion and firebase which could land a Space Marine strike force and withstand heavy ground fire while its cargo or troops and war machines disembarked to press the attack. One of the later patterns developed, the Sokar was the design precursor to the smaller Thunderhawk Gunship. The Stormbird’s standard armament is four turret-mounted twin linked lascannon, three twin-linked heavy bolters, and a complement of six dreadstrike missiles. It is also equipped with...
With unparalleled speed and manoeuvrability, the Xiphon pattern Interceptor saw increasing service in the Legiones Astartes during the dark days of the Horus Heresy. Based on ancient designs, the void and atmospheric craft carried heavy armaments into battle, allowing it to destroy both air and ground targets with apparent ease. Its pair of twin-linked lascannon and Xiphon rotary missile launcher combined with the Interceptor’s speed and agility to make it a deadly opponent from which the enemies of Mankind could not hide.
The Devourer is a class of dropship used by the Imperial Navy to transport Imperial Guard forces from orbiting ships to planetary surfaces. Carried in larger transport ships such as the Cetaceus Class Transport, Devourer dropships are considerably larger than Space Marine Thunderhawk Gunships. Each Devourer is a two-decked vessel, with the upper deck housing the infantry units and the lower deck holding the heavier equipment such as tanks and artillery. The Devourer is designed for planetary landings and deployment, with the armoured front section of the vessel opening up into four sections,...
The tech-wrights of Forge World Niva Gustav in the Scarus Sector are famous for two things: first, their brilliance in the field of materials science, and second their complete and utter idiocy. The planet's history is checkered by a series of STC variants, weapons designs, and engineering 'breakthroughs' as unconventionally brilliant as they were wholly devoid of common sense. A classic example of Nivan 'ingenuity' is the infamous Nivablator armour system, developed by the Forge World with some fanfare in early M38. Composed of a series of flexible, interwoven polymer fibres, Nivablator...
